![]() This one is again hard to pull off as they have to be the right level of port and you can't upgrade them yourself. The exact units vary, but as a general rule: Basically if they capture a port belonging to another culture and don't convert it, they may gain access to specific "civilised" ships with "barbarian" crews. These units cannot be replaced however, so its more a nice bit of extra flavour than a strategy to rely on.įinally Barbarians have a unique mechanic where they can gain some special naval ships from ports belonging to other cultures they've captured. ![]() And those armies may contain units like Galatian Swords or Galatian Legionaries. If I was playing Arverni (Gauls) and confederated with Galatian (Gauls) I may gain some of their armies. Basically when you confederate with another faction, you gain their armies, navies and agents (as long as they don't take you over the current cap for each type.) That includes any units they had recruited in those armies/navies that you can't recruit.Į.g. Thirdly, Barbarian factions can occasionally gain units they wouldn't otherwise have when confederating with another tribe that's in the same blood but has different units in their roster. The Seleucids actually have a faction trait which increases the number of units they can levy from Satrapies, so might be a good pick if you're looking for this sort of gameplay. In my current Egypt Grand Campaign I picked up a few units of slave infantry and a Kush pike unit over the course of several turns. Generally it changes each turn, so if I'm wanting to take advantage of this I might have a general just stand in these lands for a while and checking each turn, picking up whatever units take my fancy.Į.g. It lets you levy one or more units from that faction (basically its like mercenary recruitment, but without the hefty upkeep surcharge.) The exact unit or units available is semi-random, tied to the faction you are levying from and possibly to what they can actually recruit. Basically if one of your generals is in a region belonging to your client state or satrapy, the recruitment button is replaced with the levy button. Secondly all non-Barbarian factions can levy units from their client states and satrapies. Carthage and Saba both have bonuses to do with making their upkeep cheaper, while the Balkan states can recruit them cheaper but with higher upkeep costs. However other factions do have ways of getting units from other factions.įirstly everyone can recruit mercenaries. As others have said, its one of their themes. Rome are the only faction (outside of Rise of the Republic) to have the auxiliary system. Think we missed one? Give us a Modmail and suggest new Subreddits to add to the lists!
